FAQs

Admissions FAQs

1.       Are you accredited?
Yes, we have a full accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

2.      What is rolling admissions?
Because our program is individualized, we can admit students at the beginning of the month throughout the school year without disrupting the class or causing a hardship to a newly admitted student.

3.      Do you offer after-school care?
Yes, we offer free child care in the mornings from 8:00 a.m. until the start of classes and in the afternoon from the end of classes until 3:15 p.m.  We offer extended care from 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at an additional charge.

4.      Do you offer financial assistance?
We do offer discounts for paying tuition in full, but we do not offer financial aid at this time.

5.      Do you have a sibling policy?
We make every effort to accommodate siblings including tuition discounts.

6.      Do you require uniforms?
Yes, we require uniforms. Lands’ End and Modello Uniforms are our uniform providers.  Click here to see the TLC/LCP dress code.

7.      How old does my child need to be to attend?
We require that a child turn four years old before attending.  Because of rolling admissions, we can admit a child on the first school day of the month following his/her fourth birthday.

8.      What is a “buddy” day?
A buddy day is what we call a visitation day.  Students entering the first grade or higher attend a half day of school, splitting the time between language arts and mathematics.  This process gives both the student and the teachers an opportunity to experience each other in an academic environment.  Kindergarten students spend thirty minutes working one-on-one with one of our kindergarten teachers.

9.      What is the difference between the TLC and LCP campuses?
The Learning Castle campus houses our four-year-old through second-grade students in six stand-alone classrooms.  This campus also has a ten-station computer lab and an art room.  The campus is completely enclosed and secured.  For recess, our younger students have access to a handball wall, Ping-Pong tables, Tether Ball, basketball and foursquare courts, and a full-sized play structure.
The La Cañada Preparatory campus houses our third through eighth-grade students in thirteen classrooms.  This campus has a twelve-station computer resource lab, a twenty-four station computer lab, three science labs, an art room and a foreign language lab.  Our older students enjoy three large courtyard areas, Ping-Pong tables, Foursquare, tetherball, two GaGa pits, a full-sized basketball court, two large fields and eight tennis courts.

10.   How long before I hear if my child has been accepted?
We generally inform parents of our admissions decision within five business days.

11.   Does my child have to come to summer school?
We highly recommend that new students attend at least one three-week session of our summer program.  We have found that three weeks helps a student better acclimate to a new environment and gives the teacher a head start on assessment and lesson planning for the fall.  Some students may be required to attend summer school as a condition of acceptance.
