Tuskegee Pilot Visits 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders

Event Date and Time:
Friday, February 9, 2018 (All day)

On February 9th, one of the Tuskegee Airmen, Lt. Col, Harry Stewart, Jr., will be visiting LCP.

The Tuskegee airmen are a group of African-American pilots from WWII. Before the Tuskegee Airmen, African-Americans were not allowed to serve as military pilots. Once they got the opportunity, they would become known as some of the best pilots in the Air Force, flying more than 1,500 missions throughout the war.

Lt. Col. Harry Stewart, Jr., is one of the most decorated of the Tuskegee airmen. But even with a Distinguished Flying Cross medal, he was turned down twice as a commercial pilot because of his race. Although he continued to fly privately, it would be decades before he would receive his honorary captain's wings.

We would like to thank Ms. Melina Sirounian for arranging this wonderful opportunity to host such a distinguished and important guest.
