After School

After-School Programs

The Learning Castle offers a wide variety of after-school opportunities, such as extended care, homework rooms, private tutoring, foreign language classes and interscholastic athletics.

Extended Care

Extended Care is an after-school program that provides playrooms, enrichment activities, sports clinics and study halls until 5:30 p.m. Extended Care is designed to be purchased as a monthly service, but daily rates are available.

The Monthly Extended Care rate is based on a discounted rate of $17.50 per day times the number of days in that month. To take advantage of the monthly Extended Care rate, families must have a FACTS Incidental Billing account. Order forms are due by the last day of the preceding month. Monthly Extended Care Order Forms are available from either office.

The school officially closes at 5:30 p.m. A child picked up after 5:30 p.m. will incur a punitive charge of $10.00 for any part of the first ten minutes and $1.00 for each additional minute thereafter.

Homework Rooms

At The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory, homework rooms are an excellent way for students to do their homework. Students work with the teacher who assigned the homework and bring the assignment to completion. Head teachers staff the homework rooms on the days that coincide with their designated homework day. For example, all mathematics homework is assigned on Mondays and Wednesdays, so the math head teachers staff the homework rooms on Mondays and Wednesdays. All language arts homework is assigned on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so the language arts teachers staff the homework rooms on those days. The only exceptions to this are science and social studies. Science and social studies homework are generally week-long assignments. Science and social studies head teachers staff the homework rooms on Fridays to assist students with these longer assignments, but, due to the length, may not be able to bring the assignment to completion.

Private Tutoring

TLC and LCP offer after-school tutoring in language arts, mathematics, social studies and science with a child’s head teachers. Tutoring can only be purchased in blocks of ten, one-hour sessions. Space is limited and subject to availability. Please contact Financial Services to enroll.

Foreign Language Classes

The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory offer after-school foreign language classes in Armenian and Spanish. Both classes are year-long programs that begin in October and end in mid-May. Foreign language classes are between one and two-hours long, depending on the class. There is an additional charge for these classes, with special discounted rates for year-long extended care students.

Interscholastic Athletics

LCP is proud to offer extra-curricular team sports to our 5th-8th grade students. The tennis, flag football, girls' volleyball, and boys' and girls' basketball teams are incredibly competitive and frequently rank among the best in their league.

Student-Athletes must be in the fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth grades to be eligible for interscholastic competition.

LCP is a member of the Foothill Sports League. This league includes the following middle schools: Barnhart School, Bethany Christian, Foothill Oaks Academy, Glendale Academy, Gooden School, Judson International, New Horizon School, Ribet Academy, Sequoyah School, Pasadena Waldorf School, Waverly School and White Memorial Academy.
