How to Apply

Rolling Admissions

The application process at The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory is truly unique to our methods of teaching.

Since ours is primarily an individualized, educational program, we have the capability of admitting applicants within a technically closed school year, without disrupting classes or causing a hardship to the newly admitted student.

Therefore, applications are accepted year round and if your situation can remain flexible and if an opening occurs, we might be able to admit your child during a current school year. If a space does become available during the year, you will be notified of your child's acceptance.

Application Process

List of 5 items.

  • Step 1: Schedule a Tour

In lieu of open houses, The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory offer small group tours with our founder and director, Terry Villanueva. Parents tour the facilities, peek in on classes, and see the entire campus as it is on any given school day.

Tours can generally be scheduled for Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. for TLC and 11:00 a.m. for LCP. Each tour lasts approximately one hour.

Please note that tours will be cancelled and rescheduled for bad weather.

To schedule a tour, call the Admissions Director, Jacqueline Don, at 818-952-8008.
  • Step 2: Apply Online

We invite you to complete and submit an online application.

If you wish to receive an information pack and/or schedule a tour, complete the Inquiry form or contact our admission's office at 818-952-8008.
  • Step 3: Evaluation

Once you have submitted an application, your child will be invited to the school for an evaluation.  Transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students will spend thirty minutes working one-on-one with one of our kindergarten teachers.  All other students will attend morning classes at the school, splitting the time between mathematics and language arts.
  • Step 4: Submit Transcripts

For students entering first grade and above, transcripts from the current school are required.
  • Step 5: Summer School

We highly recommend that new students attend at least one three-week session of our summer program. We have found that three weeks helps a student better acclimate to a new environment and gives the teacher a head start on assessment and lesson planning for the fall. Some students may be required to attend summer school as a condition of acceptance.
